Re: Sound Distance Attenuation

In that case you might want to preprocess it. Making a file ambient sounds inside and another one for outside. Besides... what are birds doing inside a cave? ^_^ Though on the serious side, it would be usefull to have a few DSP effects for what ever reason. Just an option to add them on a later date...

Re: Wide-screen monitors supported?

Sadly, no. It shouldn't be a problem a huge problem to hack it in to the game, but as it stands now the game will only support 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768

Re: Contexts in maps

I'm unsure how you would create multiple contexts without "mixing functionality" as you say. I mean mixing functionality at the same horizontal and vertical level and I was speaking in general. One of the functionality of a context is that it draws and the other has to do with collision. Normally I...

Re: Contexts in maps

Thanks for making it a little bit more clear. However if I understand it correct the layers of the higher contexts are drawn over the same layers of the lower contexts. Further you can activate and deactivate contexts. (So you actually have 3*32 layers, however you will always be drawn between the f...

Re: Sound Distance Attenuation

Birdsong is more of an environmental effect, which would probably be stereo and not have 3D calculations applied. Are you suggesting DSP? Lets see... I will be paraphrasing my audio engine design teacher: 'It depends on how it is recorded. If you have a lot of enviromental sounds you might want to ...

Re: Contexts in maps

Ok, let me get this straight. Contexts have to with occlusion (hiding what you can't see) and making things visible, right? (on the wiki it said walkable areas, btw) However in examples given I see that we also want different heights (the roof is at a different height) to be taken in account. Howeve...

Wiki user account creation error

I got this message as I registered myself on the wiki. I still registered but I have no idea what this warning might cause. Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2) in /home/groups/a/al/allacrost/htdocs/wiki/extensions/addUserExt.php on line ...

Re: Map Editor compile instructions for VS 2005 (step by step)

If all you Windows devs could actually agree on a standard project file there wouldn't be a need to modify a system-wide environment variable... There are always a few idiots (not excluding anyone) that want things different, everyone has his own preference. Though the point you make is completly v...

Step by Step instructions for VS 2005

I will assume a clean install of VS 2005, I don't know if it works with the free version but since you don't need the windows SDK I will assume it does. I will also assume you have already the code from svn Phase 0: Prepare yourself mentally. this is going to be a long ride and don't think it will b...

Re: Sound Distance Attenuation

Using inverse square over distance is real physical formulate it is rarely used in games. A better method is using an inner range (in which the audio is played at 100%) and an outer range which defines 0% volume and use linear interpolation between it. If you do use inverse square remember that a di...

I'm using 4.3.4, the version shouldn't really matter unless there is some major revision which affects the implementation.
