Name for Allacrost currency

Postby Roots » Sat Aug 12, 2006 9:18 pm

We've been using the dummy name "Bling" for far too long to represent our game currency. We need to pick something that is short (pref. 1-2 syllables), unique, and appropriate. A good example from another universe is the fictional pirate manga/anime "One Piece" where a single unit of currency was called a "Beli". It even had it's own cool little monetary symbol (see the top image in the wikipedia page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_One_Piece_bounties ).

Now come up with a good name for the currency in the Allacrost universe! :axe: Here's a list of random words (+ plural form) from my head.

- Hayo(s)
- Dorun(s)
- Reli(s)
- Hetho(s)
- Rak(s)
- Qau(s)

I think that the name should "roll" easy on the tongue, it makes it easier to brag your friend about how much futher you have advanced in the game  . I don't like Hetho(s) for this reason. It could also be a word with no plural form (like "Gil" in FF's).

From what metal is Allacrost coins made of? The name just could be a twist from the metal's name (like Silver = Shiv(s)/Shil(s)).

Anyways, it should't be much of an issue unless you stick with the "bling".

"Oh, that dragon had 234 blings" *shrudder*

I like Dorun. It has that "bronze age middle east" feel that this game seems to show with prevelance.

At first I was going to disagree, but the name is slowly sinking into me. I think I might like it too. :) And Dorun can be a name derived from the word Dora, a semi-rare, lusterious alloy that is materialized only when cold iron in sunbathed for hunderds of years. Or something :heh: Although the name Dorun does sound a little bit too "pre-Allacrost age" to me. In other words, I think it sounds somewhat primitive.

Anymore suggestions?

Personally, I think Doran sounds better, although it makes me think of durian, those supposedly great tasting fruit trhat smell of rotten flesh. That might be a good thing because some people claim they are food of kings :)

I think I like Doran(s) better than Dorun(s) as well. Although it kinda sounds too close to Duran, which is....someone/thing in pop culture I think?

The story/game only starts in a desert environment. The whole world isn't just a bloody desert. :bash:

I've come up with a better name for the currency:

cookies.

Money was meant to be delicious. :heh:

You may notice in the screenshots I put the currency as "Dorrun". Doran is too pop-culture, so I changed it back to Dorun and added another r. :heh: I still don't really like the name though. :| Suggestions are still very welcome.

No. Simply no. :)

That's like beating a dead horse. Surely we can think of something more original...

That's sort of a horse as well :D

How about drunes? That sounds sexy.

I think that Rain is on to something here. I sounds familiar, thought. Anyways, Drune has my "vote", so to speak.

I like "drune".

I also like anything with "uple" and "upie" endines.

But Drune has a nice little ring to it.

"That will be 50 drunes" -- "that will be 50 dr."
