:twitch: ANOTHER great sprite? That fast!? Wow.

 I'm now beginning to wonder if these daemons - though we wouldn't have them wandering around in the demo (like the more mundane monsters are), I wonder if we could graphically introduce the boss battle.

Namely, the demo town consists of a safe/peaceful village with NPCs, and a cave with monsters. There is, however, one NPC at the end of the cave - a Harrvan Knight. When claudius goes to talk to him, he says (paraphrased) "Wow, claudius, you sure did good fighting your way this deep into the cave; but hey, this is the end of the demo." All of a sudden, he says "What's that sound!?" and a battle starts with the boss monsters.

That's all implemented right now, fully operational. However, the "OMG what's that sound?!" part is rather weak, visually. I was thinking that maybe we could, immediately after the player clicks past that dialogue, doing a quick CT-style cutscene (which we'll probably end up doing extensively in the real game, but this would be a good prototype). Claudius would be completely immobilized (lets assume it's fear), and two daemon map sprites would suddenly appear, and approach him from opposite sides. When they got really close - bam, battle begins.

Is the feasible with the engine as it is? I don't know; if it's not, then let's put this off for post 0.2.0. But if it is feasible, it actually shouldn't be to hard to script.

Just all the currents ones up... I know they're aren't all standard walking characters, In which... I figure that the Naga one would walk with the hoping frames.. and the Gigas would be a guard like character.

[img:384:384]http://www.allacrost.org/staff/user/saf ... ragons.gif[/img]It seems that your bird study has been put to very good use. :approve:

Also, its amazing to see how different these characters can look in different colors. It opens up a world of possibilites! Oh yes, I am horny.

That looks perfect. :approve:
Thanks a bunch for getting that done right away.

Gorzuate: let's you and I work on integrating this into the demo, right before the boss battle - I'll be on IRC late tonight.

Hilarious.

There's no such thing as "too" much Chrono Trigger. That just means that its high quality grade A-wesome.

I'm late to reply in this thread, but I'll just re-iterate what everyone else said in that this stuff si awesome.

You know what would be really cool + useful to have? A simple animation of map sprite Claudius swinging his sword in the four directions. We've played around with the idea of characters using their weapons to solve puzzles (ie cutting away a bush, or a curtain that is hiding a secret passage, etc). We could also use such an ability to "stun" monsters on a map.

The animation would just be a simple transition of:

- shift feet position to a more stabilizing stance
- reach up and grab sword hilt behind back
- unsheathe sword from scabbard
- make a vertical and somewhat diagonal slash through the air, placing emphasis on body weight behind the strike (ie, torso moves down along with sword, not just arms)
- stand back up and resheathe

This sounds rather difficult to do. I'd do it myself if I didn't suck at art. Just a thought though; no immediate necessity for this animation.

Reminds me of Lufia 2 quite a bit. :D Thats a good thing as Lufia 2 has some amazing puzzles that require sword swings. It would EVEN MORE awesome if you could stun monsters so that you don't have to fight them.

However, a bow and arrow might be better for this. I could be wrong, but it seems like it would be really difficult to get close enough to strike an enemy with a sword without initiating in battle.

Even so, 'stunning' is a good technique to consider. The ability to do so can really mean the difference between making it out of a dungeon alive...or not. Plus, it seems like a good way to NOT have to fight every enemy that the player comes across. That gets really annoying when creatures are 30 levels below you and attack you. Its a large waste of time and highly irritating. Stunning might be a gem of an idea. :approve:

That's what laila is for - she uses a crossbow as her main weapon, and when we complete support for multiple characters, you'll be able to switch between them in map mode.

If that is the case, then I obviously need to do some reading up! :heh:
This sounds great. In any case, hopefully we will be able to pull this off fluidly. Its clear that Allacrost is going to be very expansive.

Awesome! These look really nice :approve: I'll see if I can get these added into the game this week (it will require some coding support). Great work as always S-K :approve:
